Yes. On-device dictation is free and unlimited. Other workspace features have free allowances, with Basic and Pro plans for more usage and cloud credits. See Pricing for current prices and allowances.
Cue supports macOS 14 or later on Apple Silicon and Intel Macs. Available on-device models and performance vary by hardware. Cue is currently a Mac product.
You can use free on-device dictation without an account. Paid plans and connected services have their own account and access requirements.
On-device dictation works offline once you have downloaded the required model. Your local Markdown notes remain readable without a connection. Cloud transcription, cloud AI, and connected services need internet access.
Privacy
Your notes and meeting transcripts are saved to local files on your Mac. Notes use ordinary Markdown, in a folder you control.
It depends on the feature and model you choose. On-device dictation processes speech on your Mac. Cloud transcription sends audio to a provider; cloud-backed chat, editing, and summaries send the input and context needed for that request.
Yes. Your notes are ordinary Markdown files. You can open, edit, move, and back them up with other tools without needing Cue.
The context you share through MCP becomes available to the assistant you connect. Access requires setup and permission, and that assistant’s own processing and data practices also apply.
No. The Markdown files on your Mac remain readable without Cue or a paid plan. You can keep using them in another editor.
AI processing
An on-device model runs on your Mac. A cloud model processes the request on a provider’s servers. On-device dictation can work offline; cloud models need an internet connection.
Choose an on-device model for offline dictation. You can also choose a cloud model when its accuracy or language support suits your work. Accuracy depends on the model, language, microphone, environment, and vocabulary.
Yes. Cue supports your own AI through API keys, compatible command-line tools, and MCP connections. The tool or provider you connect may have its own subscription, usage costs, and data practices.
No. Your own AI, CLI, and MCP are included in free access and Basic. Pro adds unlimited cloud dictation and a larger monthly cloud-credit allowance.
Optional cloud features may use credits. Basic and Pro include a monthly allowance, and Pro includes more cloud credits. The Pricing section lists the current allowances and which features use credits.
Features
Place your cursor in a text field, use your Cue shortcut, and speak. Cue turns your speech into editable text in the app you are using. You can change the trigger shortcut in settings.
No. Cue captures audio on your Mac, so there is no meeting bot to invite or admit. Meeting capture is in beta, with capture quality and speaker separation still being improved.
Yes. Select text in another Mac app and tell Cue what to change. You can shorten a paragraph, adjust its tone, or turn it into action items. Cloud-backed editing sends the selected input to a provider.
Ask questions across saved notes and meetings, edit workspace notes, and use relevant memory from saved work. Answers can show supporting sources. These capabilities are in beta, and sourced answers can still contain mistakes.
Q is the broader chief-of-staff experience in development. Routines, automatic meeting preparation and follow-ups, screen context, and proactive agent work are not generally available Cue features. The Chief of Staff page explains the planned experience and early access.
