Your notes are ordinary Markdown files you can open in other editors. You can also connect compatible AI tools through MCP and grant access to your Cue context.

Can I read my notes without Cue?
Yes. Your notes are local Markdown files, readable in other compatible editors.
Does this mean Cue sees every app or existing vault automatically?
The workflow starts with material in your Cue context. Access from connected tools requires setup and permission. Using the same file format does not establish automatic sync or compatibility with every vault feature.
What stays on my Mac?
Your notes remain local Markdown files. On-device transcription runs on your Mac. Choosing cloud transcription, summaries, chat, or editing sends the relevant input to a provider. Connected AI tools have their own data practices.
